A New Year Message from Our President
Dear Customers and Friends,
I wanted to send a brief note to thank you for your partnership this past year and welcome you to 2018 at NDC. These are exciting times for our company and we are committed to do whatever we can to assure our customers have a secure, reliable and cost-effective platform for their IT infrastructure.
With that in mind, we have a big agenda for this year that is full of facility and process enhancements. I want to take this opportunity to highlight a few of them.
NDC Carrier Hotel Expansion Project – Many of you are aware and have seen the engineering designs “Facility Expansion Project” for our 1623 Farnam Street carrier hotel. The good news is that the City of Omaha has now approved the designs and construction is underway. NDC spent a considerable amount of time and finances in 2017 to determine the best approach to converting this site to a dedicated and fully featured data center facility. The archictural drawings are a better reflection of the transformation that will occur, but the addition of hard steel on the exterior (replacing windows) and extensive power, cooling and security enhancements is carefully designed to provide a solid data center facility with the benefits innate to carrier hotels. I do want to assure you that NDC’s strategy is to balance the need for secure, reliable features while at the same time, not overbuilding to a point where the business justification for utilizing our facility cannot be achieved. We believe we have accomplished this within the current design while also offering scalability for those customers that need additional redundancy. If you haven’t seen the designs, I encourage you to call our office and schedule a time to review the plans and construction schedule.
2nd Floor Data Center Suites – If you haven’t noticed, the 2nd floor of the Omaha facility is completely stripped to bare walls. We are in the process of finishing approximately 3,000 sq. ft. of space that is currently designed as suites 200C and 200B. This “Phase 1” of the Enhancement Project is scheduled for completion in the next few months. In addition to the conditioned space, NDC is increasing backup power and cooling capacities to assure we maintain N+1 on all critical components.
Security Enhancements – NDC has been working with most of the other tenants within 1623 Farnam to relocate their offices to other buildings. This allows us more control over the access procedures and more access as we convert the building. Thus, be on the lookout for changes to both the physical access to the building as well as our access policies over the coming year. Initial changes will not impact those who are currently approved for building, floor and suite access, but will require additional steps for visitors and or contractors who need access. More to come on the details, but we are committed to providing convenience to our customers but at the same time lock down the facility to protect your infrastructure.
Customer Portal – A project that has been ongoing is to launch a customer portal that would provide convenient access to pertinent information for our customers. This secure portal would provide a source for questions related to NDC operations as well as directions and forms to complete transactions such as cross connections, helping hands and shipping/receiving requests. We are looking forward to finishing this tool and more information will be coming soon.
These are just a few of the projects we are working on that we hope will enhance our value to our customers while making it easier than ever to manage your infrastructure at NDC.
Again, we thank you for the opportunity to serve and work with you and please let us know if you have any thoughts or questions regarding these and the future direction of NDC.
Thanks for doing business with us.
